Abstract:

In 2018, NamPower obtained an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for the Vegetation Management at Van Eck - Omburu I and II Transmission line servitudes, Khomas and Otjozondjupa respectively. However, the other operational and maintenance activities were not included in the previous ECC which was issued. Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (2012), the activity described as "The construction of facilities for the transmission and supply of electricity" requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to apply for the ECC for the operation and maintenance of an existing 220kv Van Eck โ€“ Omburu 1 and 2 transmission lines including Van Eck substation in Khomas, Otjozondjupa and Erongo region in order to comply with the Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations.
