Abstract:

The town of Lüderitz is served with a waste disposal site located about 2 km east of the town's Central Business District (CBD). The site has been operational for more than forty (40) years, but it does not have an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) nor does it have an Environmental Management Plan (EMP). In terms of the Environmental Management Act (EMA), Act No. 07 of 2007, all activities of Waste Management, Treatment, Handling and Disposal may not be carried out without an Environmental Clearance Certificate being obtained. This EMP is prepared for the operation and management of the dumpsite.
