Stratigraphy and sedimentoloy of the late precambain Witvlei and Nama Groups, east of Windhoek
East of Windhoek, outliers of Witvlei and Nama Group rocks occur in two synclinoria on the Southern Foreland of the late Proterozoic to early Palaeozoic Damara Orogen. Those sediments are underlain by conglomerate, sandstone, shale and carbonate of the Tsumis Group which was deposited during early Damara rifting, followed by predominantly fluvial arenites of the Nosib Group (Kamtsas Formation). A patchy tillite (Blaubeker Formation) could either form the top of the Nosib Group or the base of the overlying Witvlei Group.
