New Zegdoumyidae (Rodentia, Mammalia) from the Middle Eocene of Black Crow, Namibia: taxonomy, dental formula
Continued acid treatment of blocks of Eocene freshwater limestone from Black Crow, Namibia (Ypresian/Lutetian) has yielded additional faunal remains, including an almost complete young adult mandible, several isolated teeth and some post-cranial elements of a zegdoumyid rodent, a family previously represented at the site by a single upper molar. A new genus and species is named and its locomotor repertoire is examined. A discussion of rodent deciduous teeth is undertaken. Keywords: Ypresian/Lutetian, Dentition, Southern Africa, Evolution, Zegdoumyidae, Rodentia.
