This study has emphasised the need for more data on the aerial extent of seasonal flooding, on the ground water recharge, and on the contributions of evaporation and transpiration to water loss. What is required is a thorough understanding of the hydrological function of the wetland, which can serve as a basis for more comprehensive numerical models of hydrology of the system.
