Abstract:
Detectability of birds varies with habitat (broadleaf/coniferous, stages of succession, etc). Corrections may be made if independent data are available, or if distance to each registration is measured. A simple binomial model developed to analyse point count data developed for bias resulting from bird response to the observer can correct for the effects of variation of detectability with reasonable robustness.
