Rüppell's Korhaan Eupodotis rueppelli occurs in Namibia from Aus north to south-west Angola along the bottom edge of the pro-Namib escarpment west towards the coast (Allan 1997, Jarvis and Robertson 1997). The birds are associated with plains that may be vegetated with grasses following rain or on open gravel plains almost devoid of vegetation (Viljoen 1983). A status assessment in 1996 estimated that there were some 100 000 Rüppell's Korhaans in Namibia (Jarvis and Robertson 1997).
