Abstract:
The Brandberg West Sn-W deposit is situated in the Damaraland province of S.W.A./Namibia. It is one of a number of Sn-W deposits occurring in an east-northeast-trending belt, which is located in the Southern Kaoko Zone of the northern coastal branch of the Damara Orogen. The deposit consists of a sheeted, anastomosing system of quartz-sulphide-cassiterite-wolframite veins, hosted by meta-sediments of the Swakop Group. Stream sediment and lithogeochemical data suggest a continuation of the mineralised zone outside the Brandberg West open-cast mine. Following detailed mapping and grid-based lithogeochemical sampling, selected targets were investigated by diamond drilling. Anomalous zones within the boreholes could be correlated with the presence of well-mineralised veins and surface lithogeochemical anomalies.
