Title:
260529007556: Development (construction, installation and operation) of Batubaja Base Transceiver Station in Linyati Constituency, Zambezi Region, Namibia
Publication Year:
2026
Abstract:

Files could not be downloaded on EIA MET server (not found) - only EIA information was available. Regulatory compliance: The proposed installation at Batubaja, Zambezi Region, directly addresses strict Quality of Service (QoS) frameworks and network stabilization mandates issued by the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN). PowerCom (Pty) Ltd must accelerate this deployment to upgrade rural network capacity and fulfill its regulatory obligations. Community support Crucially, this project carries the overwhelming support of the local population. In their formal consent letter to PowerCom, the Batubaja community explicitly stated that they cannot afford any further delays for this development, noting they are entirely exhausted by the state of poor network connectivity in the area. This infrastructure is a critical public safety and emergency lifeline. In a region prone to seasonal flooding and human-wildlife conflict, reliable connectivity is essential for coordinating disaster management, agricultural operations, and school safety. Environmental Suitability The physical footprint required for the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) is compact and highly localized. Potential construction-phase impacts - such as short-term noise and dust - are minimal and fully mitigable through the project's Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP).
