This point shapefile was compiled from various sources. The main dataset was derived from 'Airfields of Southern Africa

compilation:

1998' and updated using the 1999/2000 edition (compiled and published by SA Fliteguide Publications, PO Box 1635,

Fourways 2055, South Africa)

Supplementary data were added from

- Flip Stander's (DSSS, Ministry of Environment and Tourism) GPS co-ordinates taken on airstrips

- NNEP data

- northeast CBNRM conservancy data

- northwest CBNRM conservancy data

- 1:250 K mapping project

- Karel Jankowitz (commercial pilot) - own database of GPS'd runway co-ordinates

Airfields capable of handling large jet aircraft (Class A), and smaller commuter type aircraft and volumes (Class B) were

extracted from page E35 of the SOER on Namibia's industrialisation environment. All others were assumed to be C.

Updated official roads data were obtained from Geo Business Solutions (contracted to the Roads Authority), on CD.

compilation:

These are updated to May 2001. Some roads north of 21 lat which were known to have problems (e.g. district boundary

on the west of Etosha) were corrected using a dataset digitised from orthophotos for the 1:250K mapping project. The

source and accuracy of the data are indicated in the attribute table. This dataset contains roads which fall under the

responsibilty of the Roads Authority. As a result some roads in certain areas of the country are excluded.
