Notes on data, analysis and

Based on data on about 2,000 farm sales over the past 10 years assembled by the Social Science Division of the

compilation:

University of Namibia and kindly made available to the Atlas Project by Ben Fuller. Some additional data were obtained

from the Ministry of Lands, Resettlement and Rehabilitation. The data were cleaned to exclude those with no

transaction prices, erroneous values etc. and all were adjusted (using the consumer price index) to be equivalent to prices

in 2000. The following outliers were excluded:

Ha < 1000

Total price N$ > 10 000 000

price/ha < 5 N$ (23 records)

price/ha > 1000 N$ (11 records)

Data were matched (using farm name/ number etc.) to farm polygons in the farms shapefile (Fig 5.32) and a point file

created from the centroids of farms. A kriging interpolation was undertaken to produce a grid file (1km cell size)

depicting contours of land value across the country within the freehold farmland area. Map units of the grid = m.
