Notes on data, analysis and

1. Carrying capacity (kg/ha) for the commercial farming area was derived from information produced by the AEZ

 

compilation:

programme of Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development.

 

 

2. Gaps in this data set (i.e. communal areas) were filled in using regional data derived from Table 5.3 in the 1998

 

 

Human Development Report for Namibia. This regional level data provided a comparatively crude indication of

 

 

carrying capacity due to the coarse-scale (regional) resolution and the method used, as follows. The potential LLUS were

 

 

multiplied up by 360kg (biomass of cattle) to calculate kg per region. This was then converted to kg/ha and spread over the whole region.
