For commercial farming areas, data were initially attributed to farms and then converted to grids at a resolution of 10

km. For many areas, especially communal areas, data were used in combination with the human population map (Figure

6.01) to 'spread' animals across rural areas. Resulting point maps were gridded at a resolution of 10 km. The final grid

was then smoothed using Neighbourhood Statistics and converted to a shapefile.

Data quality and organisation

Positional Accuracy:

Original data generally accurate to farm level or better. Data for some areas (e.g. Veterinary Services data for communal

areas) only at district level.
