Notes on data, analysis and

Boundaries as depicted in the map of South West Africa produced by the Surveyor General, 1966 were recreated by

 

compilation:

merging, editing and deleting farm polygons from the present day farm shapefile (see Fig 5.32). This approach worked

 

 

well as most present day farms are subdivisions of (or the same as) the original boundaries defined at this time. The 1966

 

 

map was used as this is the first map of farm boundaries produced by the Surveyor General following the Odendaal

 

 

proposals. It illustrates the division of land immediately following the proposals. In the shapefile, communal land is

 

 

divided into two categories: land proposed for use as communal land by the Odendaal Commission and land still assigned

 

as communal land in 1966.
