Notes on data, analysis and Derived in collaboration with Flip Stander of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism from information collected by
compilation: the Namibia Large Carnivore Atlas project, using data available in early 2001. All sightings were mapped as points and

converted into contours reflecting relative densities. These contours were then adjusted by Flip Stander based on field

experience and knowledge. Density estimates, and derived population estimates, were based on intensive studies in

Etosha National Park, Kaudum Game Reserve, Nyae Nyae Conservancy, Otjiwarongo district and Kunene region.
Data quality and organisation
Positional Accuracy: Data accuracy is, for many sightings, not very accurate since the data have been collected by members of the public, and

often not using GPS etc.
