Notes on data, analysis and

Eryn Griffin provided sketch maps showing the distribution of each species, based on all records available to him and his

compilation:

knowledge of habitat preferences. These were synthesised to generate estimated numbers of species per quarter degree

(approx 27 x 27 km). A grid file (at 5km cell size) was created from point data (i.e.centroids of QDS) using a kriging

interpolator. The shapefile was created from the grid file once suitable class intervals were identified. 14 species of

scorpions are considered to be endemic to Namibia (with 100% of their range in Namibia): Hottentota conspersus,

Parabuthus brachystylus, Parabuthus gracilis, Parabuthus kraepelini, Parabuthus namibensis, Parabuthus stridulus,

Uroplectes longimanus, Uroplectes otjimbinguensis, Uroplectes pilosus, Uroplectes teretipes, Hadogenes lawrencei,

Lisposoma elegans, Lisposoma josehermana, Opisthophthalmus adustus, Opisthophthalmus brevicauda,

Opisthophthalmus cavimanus, Opisthophthalmus chrysites, Opisthophthalmus coetzeei, Opisthophthalmus flavescens,

Opisthophthalmus holmi, Opisthophthalmus intercedens, Opisthophthalmus jenseni, Opisthophthalmus opinatus, Opisthophthalmus

penrithorum, Opisthophthalmus pygmaeus, Opisthophthalmus schultzei, Opisthophthalmus setifrons
